Great looking forecast for this time of year!

One word to sum up the weather…WOW…. Not much to talk about in the weather dept as our nice almost summer time weather keeps a rolling…


To make this really easy…. The next few days with star lots of sunshine with temps well above avg temps, highs in the lower to middle 70s seem to be the best way to run…. I sure would not be surprised to see a few upper 70s maybe an 80 or two….Night time will feature starry nights with lows in the middle 40s to lower 50s…Enjoy it some changes are in the works for starting Sunday night into Monday… Cold front is forecasted to work it’s way into the FA shall bring us a chance of showers as of right now don’t see any thunder, however if we can get the Lis up along with Lapse values…. Will keep an eye on it…. Cold front will knock our warm temps back down into the lower 60s by next week with lows in the 40s…. Will go more into details tomorrow morning…. Meanwhile get out and enjoy the nice fall weather, as you know this won’t last much longer…..

The Forecast For Western.Northwestern WI

Not much to talk about in the weather dept...Our nice long stretch of peaceful weather will keep rocking through Next Monday as it appears right now...Clear cool nights with mostly sunny warm days.....

Looking at the SFC OBS this morning we find temps in the lower to middle 30s across the FA...Winds are rather light out of the South/Southeast....Tons of sunshine to greet everyone....
***FORECAST DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS***
Large 1028 MB high pressure centered over Northeast IA this morning per ETA will remain in control of our weather,as it drops to the South/Southwest.GFS has the high pressure centered over Eastern MN either way it doesn't matter a lot. Winds on the backside of said high will remain out of the South/Southeast today..This will allow for temps to climb back into the middle to upper 60s throughout much of the area....Would not be shocked to see a few lower 70s in my Central and Southern zones...Tonight we see a Shortwave moving through SD/ND this is forecasted to drag a weak frontal boundary  through the area....More of a wind shift than anything...Another area of high pressure following on it's heals is forecasted the high pressure to setup over the upper Midwest for the rest of the week... GFS is trying to paint some shower activity over the area for Sunday into Monday....For now am not buying into that,however it is something we will have to watch for...As of right now will run with a dry forecast....

This is really easy.....Mostly sunny with highs in the middle to upper 60s with a few lower 70s added into the mix....Mostly clear nights with lows in the middle to upper 30s warming to the middle to upper 40s by weeks end.....A great week to get out and do the fall yard work...

This years severe weather....

Has this summer been a wild one in the severe weather dept? Lets look at it shall we.....


This past summer we had 6 tornado watches issued for the area.... We had 6 severe thunderstorm watches issued for the area... Now remind you not all days there was a watch in effect we did get severe weather, or we may have got severe weather when there was no watches in effect for the area....

Lets go ahead and break down the watches...

First of lets look at the tornado watches...

First tornado watch was issued for the area on June 17th from 5:50 PM to 1:00 AM June 18th....

June 25th Tornado watch issued from 3:35 PM to 12:00 AM June 26....

July 14th a Tornado watch issued from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM...

July 27th Tornado watch issued from 3:30 PM to 11:00 PM...

August 7th Tornado watch issued from Midnight to 5:00 AM...

August 12 Tornado watch issued from 6:40 PM to 11:00 PM...

Now lets look at the severe thunderstorm watches issued for the area....

April 30th Severe thunderstorm watch issued from 12:25 PM to 7:00 PM...

June 22 Severe thunderstorm watch issued from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM June 23....

July 17th Severe thunderstorm watch issued from 8:55 PM to 3:00 AM July 18....

August 8th Severe thunderstorm watch issued from 6:30 PM to 2:00 AM August 9....

August 13... Severe thunderstorm watch issued from 1:20 AM to 9:00 AM....

August 13 Severe thunderstorm watch issued from 2:40 PM to 10:00 PM....

So grand total of watches issued stands at 12...This is still subject to change....

Tornado Count per Barron, Dunn, Polk, and ST.Croix Counties are as follows along with the EF ratings..

Barron County saw 3 tornados.... EF1 NE of Turtle Lake...EF1 tornado 3 miles sse of Cameron... EF1 tornado 4 to 6 miles Northeast of Cumberland...

Dunn County saw one tornado EF0 2 miles w/nw of Boyceville..

Polk County saw 3 tornadoes... EF1 2 miles North of Turtle Lake...EF0 in the Balsam Lake area.... EFO tornado 2 miles West and South of Bone Lake....

St. Croix County saw one tornado that was an EF1 2 miles or so W/NW of Hammond....

Barron County can up the winner with the highest ratings on all the tornados... Not only that Barron County saw more damage and more widespread wind along with hail damage than any other County in Western WI...St.Croix and Dunn Counties came up winners in the widespread flooding damage, the worst I have seen to hit the area in all my chasing yrs.....Remind you I was chasing all these events so based on what I've seen through the said Counties is how I came up with winners....With many pictures to back it up.... The tornado ratings came from the NWS....

RIP storm chase 2010

As we have come to the end of the 2010 chase season...There was a few things I didn't get to do, one was I never got out of state this year to chase do to ongoing back problems, however it was quit the home chase...When I say home chase I mean Barron, Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Polk and St. Croix Counties.... I saw more damage in said Counties then I have seen around here is a long time.... I saw damage ranging from tornado to flooding, along with hail, and straight line winds.... The worst tornado damage I saw was in Both Barron and Polk Counties.....The worst hail damage was saw in Barron County mainly around the Rice Lake area, where one inch hail was common... The worst straight line wind damage I saw was only in Barron County... The worst flooding I saw was in ST. Croix and Dunn Counties whereas many roads were washed out...... So this chase year was a very busy one for this storm chaser, I would have to admit I was getting sick of the long hrs and lonely miles I put on this year, but it's part of the chasing game... To be frank there was a few times I really thought about saying the hell with storm chasing for good.... I still think about it yet, However storm chasing is in my blood and it has been a big part of my life for many years...So I can't give it up... I really do enjoy doing this public service... One thing I can live without, but I'm getting better at is all the people coming up to me asking to take pictures of my truck and myself with their family and my truck, or people just talking to me about what I do as a storm chaser... Don't get me wrong I will always help anyone who as an interests in storm chasing or just storm spotting.... I will also take time to talk to people or pose for pictures I may not like it but, whether I like it or not I'm in the spot light in the local area, which consists of said Counties above.... One other thing I really can live without is the damage... Some people think all I do is go out and get pictures for myself cuz somehow I enjoy it, far from the truth... I hate it but, I send the pictures to the NWS so they can study them along with info I gather from talking to people....


This storm season a very long one, It seemed like we had severe thunderstorms just about every other day, or every 3 days..... I know there were times my friends got mad at me cause the of the weather, but they some how understand which I'm so glad, as I have lost friends over this.. Anyway getting back on track again... The number of severe thunderstorms the area saw this so far this year comes in at 10 severe thunderstorm days... There were many watches that were issued, however not all them days produce severe thunderstorms... I will have a final tally at the end of this month, along with the gen thunderstorm days.... Will also have a tally on the tornado count per County... RIP storm chase 2010 you gave us run for our money that is for sure.... Lightning well yeah it almost took me out more than I care to count this year....

Severe thunderstorms rock Barron and Polk Counties

Severe thunderstorms pound the Northern parts of Barron County along with parts of Polk County late Saturday night into the early Sunday morning hrs....


Lots to talk about with the damage so lets dive right into it.....

First off we will talk about Barron County....

There was scattered damage North of HWY 48.... Some damage was noted to South, however it was more isolated in nature......Over in Cumberland Eagle point camp ground got pounded... It appears to have been straight line winds... There are four confirmed injuries, ATTM there are four unconfirmed injuries....

I know of three campers that were destroyed... Tress where uprooted and or snapped off.... Just North of Cumberland on HWY 63 there was a factory that had it's main roof ripped off.....Now on to the other damage spot in Barron County.... All along HWY B there was widespread damage....Tress either uprooted or snapped off.... However the closer one gets to silver lake the narrow and concerted the damage becomes....From just North of HWY B on 11 1/4 street on the West side of Silver lake to 11 3/4 -12 street on the East side of silver lake.... In these areas trees were uprooted and or snapped off... Also appears some of the trees were twisted.... There are tress throughout this area laying in different directions.... This leads me to believe this could have been a possible tornado that struck this area... However at the same time is could have been a downburst winds... Throughout both damage areas trees ranged from 4 inches in dim up to 2 to 3 foot in dim.... Power was still out in most of them areas at noon yesterday... Not sure if it's on today..... Ok moving over into Polk County, as of so far the only area I was able to look at was 5 to 6 miles East of Luck..... Mainly along HWY 63, and along 95th st and 250 th Ave.... In these areas there was damage done to building and one trailer house had some of it's roof torn off... By time I got into this area that had a lot of work done on it... Many tress throughout this area were either uprooted or snapped off... Some twisted of the tress were also noted.... Just up the road from this place there was another place that had windows blown out of the house, along with damage to the sheds... Along with windows smashed out of a car and truck.... Truck had other damage to it from flying debris... There was one injury at this residence.... Person was cut up by flying glass in the house as she was heading for the basement to join the rest of her family..... The grandparents told me that they heard a low rumble sound to a roaring sound...... From what I saw and from all the interviews I do believe this was a possible tornado..... There is other damage in Polk County along with the Northern parts of St. Croix County from my understanding, so will try to get out that way......

Barron County and Polk gets rocked by severe thunderstorms

Was a long night last night a very long day.....I will post damage pictures tomorrow morning...Right I need to get then to the NWS....Saw two areas that could very well have been a possible tornado... First area in Barron County out by Silver lake.... The other possible tornado was found over in Polk County about 5 to 6 Miles East of Luck..... The reason I didn't post the streets and Aves is to keep sight seers out as these poor people have tons of work to do....
